Sneakerplaats interview with @koetschi

1. Who (are you?), What (do you for a living?), Where (do you live?)

Hey, I’m Philipp, 29 years old and I’m living in the City of Culture Weimar in Thuringia, Germany. I’ve been here my whole life and I love this city.
I studied sports science and also work in this field. Next to my beautiful family, I have a big passion for shoes.

The Photo shows the new “Bauhaus-Museum” which is next to Goethe and Schiller monuments a new beautiful attraction in this city.

2.When did your love for sneakers start and why do you love sneakers so much?

The time when I was really interested in streetwear and shoes was the baggy era where you wanted to look like the American rappers at this Time. My friends and I have all lived this style, today we have to lough about that.

The reason why I love sneakers:

on the one hand, because I find them super beautiful, because there are stories behind them, because they are eye-catchers and something special

On the other hand, because there is a huge, great community behind the whole topic.

3. Do you remember your first pair of sneakers? Which pair was it?

The first pair I can remember was a pair of white and blue Air force ones in 2006. We didn’t have the big money, so more expensive shoes just weren’t possible back then.

But my interest in shoes in particular was already there back then. With my first Air Max 1 a few years later, it was all over for me.

Unfortunately, there wasn’t much money when I was studying, so my passion for collecting especially for limited and special shoes, really started with my first real job.

4. What’s your favorite brand and model?

That’s easy to say. The Nike Air Max 1. I love this silhouette. I love this silhouette. Despite the fact that I own many of my favorites, there are always pairs from the past that I would like to have.

But I also think that New Balance is currently doing a sensational job. I also have a couple of great pairs from Asics. If the shoe convinces me, the brand is not that important to me.

5. How many sneakers do you have in your collection?

Difficult question. It should be around 50-55 pairs. So not as many as others, but chosen wisely and all worn with love.

6. What’s your favorite pair from your collection?

That’s a difficult question too. I really do have a few favorite Pairs, especially the Air max 1 Patta collabs back in the days. But my all-time favorite is the Air Max 1 elephant.

7. Which pair(s) are still on your wish list?

This will forever be the Air Max 1 Cherrywood. I’ll probably never be able to buy it, but that’s okay too. I would like to have an Air Max 1 OG red. So a really old pair, I would just put them on the shelf and look at them every day.

8. Do you have a favorite sneakerstore or -shop?

In fact I haven’t. But I always think it’s good to support established stores with great stories.

I don’t have a big shop nearby either, so I have to try and get everything online. So I prefer to look at smaller stores to buy my stuff.

9. Which brand and / or model would you never wear in your life? And why is that?

I can’t answer that in general. But the Yeezy 350 hype completely passed me by. Accordingly, I would never wear a Yeezy 350 V2. There are also brands where I am simply not convinced by any shoes.

However, I also value quality, so if brands that I currently don’t like release something that I like and where the quality is right, I’ll be there.

10. Which sneaker in your collection was the hardest to find/get?

I was looking for an Air Max 1 Patta Chlorophyll for years until I finally found one at a good price last year.

The same was true for the Air Max 1 Patta Corduroy, which a very good friend gave to me two years ago. I never thought I’d get these two pairs. I’m even happier now.

11. What advice would you like to give to new sneakerheads?

Wear what you like and not what social media tells you to wear. Don’t follow any hype and don’t spend all your money on a pair of shoes.

Get involved in the community, because if you doing good things for other, you get good things in return.

And: You have to feel what you wear!

12. What has been your biggest steal ever?

If you look at today’s prices, that was clearly the Patta Chlorophyll. But I’ve also had a lot of good retail deals through great friends.

Accordingly, these were all steals if you compare them with the market prices. This corresponds to my credo: if you help others, you get help in return.

13. How much time a day / a week do you spend on “sneakers”?

Haha, that’s hard to answer too. Sometimes more, sometimes less time. When you have to enter a number of raffles, it takes a lot of time. Otherwise, friends write a lot and discuss things. And currently instagram is a lot of fun too.

But family always comes first.

14. How do your loved ones feel about your sneaker lifestyle?

My girlfriend can’t really understand it. But like I said, it’s more than collecting shoes, it’s the community, the network, that’s a big part of it.

In addition, a great Pair jumps out for the loved ones, then the mood is always great there.

But I think it’s hard to understand that you have a passion for shoes.

15. Where can people follow you on your socials? (Instagram, Facebook, etc)

@koetschi At instagram!

I really love to take nice shots, so Instagram is a great way to share this, So, I am happy about everyone who follows me and who shares their passion with me, interacts or leaves a comment.

I am also happy about every message and every conversation that takes place there. 😉
