Sneakerplaats interview with @kevinmaecky

1. Who (are you?), What (do you for a living?), Where (do you live?)

Hi everyone! My name is Kevin Maeckelbergh, I am a 33 years old sneaker enthusiast that lives together with my girlfriend in a town close to Bruges in Belgium.

I am a quality controller in a factory that makes trains. Besides collecting Air Max 1’s, I love to travel, to do some graphic design and I play tennis.

Since last year, I also started customizing air maxes and a lot more customs are coming!

2. When did your love for sneakers start and why do you love sneakers so much?

I always loved sneakers but my love or should I say my addiction started 6 years ago when a colleague of me told me about some special pairs and then we visited Sneakerness.

A whole new world opened for me! I love to match my kicks with my outfits and the feeling you get when you can finally cop that one pair you’ve been looking for for a long time, is indescribable.

3. Do you remember your first pair of sneakers? Which pair was it?

My first pair was an all black Nike Air Max 90, with a blue logo on the back. My first “special” pair of Air Max 1’s was the BHM from 2012.

4. What’s your favorite brand and model?

There is only one for me as you noticed already: The Nike Air Max 1. Released for the first time in 1987, the year I was born too.

5. How many sneakers do you have in your collection?

Has to be around 60 for now.

6. What’s your favorite pair from your collection?

Always difficult to say… but if I really have to choose it has to be the OG Elephant, the GOAT for me. 2 other favorites from me are the Wings & Waffles and the Patriots.

7. Which pair(s) are still on your wish list?

My all-time grail is the Powerwall BRS. But I know I will never own them because the prices are way too high. That’s why I replicated the colorway with a custom.

Other pairs that are on my list are the Air Max 1 Master, Maize, and I hope to get the Patta Corduroy back.

8. Do you have a favorite sneakerstore or -shop?

I buy a lot of sneakers from other collectors in Facebook groups. And some new pairs on Stockx or on events like Sneakerness

9. Which brand and / or model would you never wear in your life? And why is that?

Adidas Yeezy. Really don’t like this silhouette and I lost my heart in the silhouette of the AM1
